西郷 平太 Saigou Heita [3rd yr]
- A member of their childhood friend group
- Blunt and sharp tongued
- Doesn't seem to really care most of the time but still joins in on the
outrageousclub activities (hijacking the announcement audio room) - Well known for having a scary face
- Seen as a delinquent by teachers, afraid of by the other students
- Takes good care of his friends (Ouji calls him his second mom)
- Looks after the school's vegetable garden, great cook
南雲 有栖 Nagumo Arisu [3rd yr]
- A member of their childhood friend group
- A bit stern with the boys and often scolds them
- Protective of her friends and helps Chitose out with her love troubles
- Unrequited love for Toumaru
陸野 奏 Rikuno Kanade [2nd yr]
- A member of their childhood friend group
- Shy yet dishonest, often does not speak his true feelings
- Somewhat negative and speaks harsh words without restraint
- Shortsighted and cannot walk with out contacts/glasses
- Doesn't like being left out but doesn't admit he wants to join in
- Becomes the new club president after the 3rd years graduate
山田 太郎 Yamada Tarou [3rd yr]
- President of the student council
- Everyone calls him baka/idiot or bakaichou/idiot president
- In contrast to his foolish speeches he actually studies the hardest among everyone else
- Has always been ranked number 1 in the grade but has been taken down by Ouji
- Thinks of Ouji as a rival, hasn't been able to defeat him once yet
- A nuisance to seishun bu's establishment by presenting them numerous obstacles
- Often gets told off by Rihito with a punch or slap
- Concerned about his own name (Chitose calls it plain)

熱海 理人 Atsumi Rihito [3rd yr]
- Vice president of the student council
- Went to the same junior high school as Tarou
- Usually gentle but is extremely strict on Tarou and his idiot behavior
- Does well with his studies and the work in the student council
- Extremely formal with those he isn't familiar with
- Joins the seishun bu because it seemed interesting, drags Tarou along to join
- Likes helping his fellow friends to study when their grades aren't looking too good (extreme demon style)

- Twin's classmate
- Friends with Yoshino since junior high
- Named as Madonna of the school for her looks

- Tarou and Rihito's classmate
- Mysterious and only seen to get along with Kotori at the start
- Previously ranked number 2 in the grade
- Joins the seishun bu because the group made a bet to outrank her on the exams (Ouji was ranked 1 while Yoshino was ranked 3)
- Helps the girls study while Chitose is left in Rihito's hands
- Similar to Rihito, she greatly dislikes Tarou's idiocy

- A transfer student who enters the school after the twins
- Actually a popular performer in the industry, often seen on the news
- Freeloads at the Futaba Inn
- Likes reading manga and has a fondness for UFOs and space aliens

- Goes at his own pace and somehow likes sidetracking/avoiding direct conversations about certain topics

- 3rd year studying at a neighboring junior high school
- Sees Heita as a role model, often follows him around

- Everyone believes Hanagiri is a boy but in fact shes a girl who wears pants instead of a skirt; she also likes addressing herself as "boku"
- Revealed in Heita's route that she was saved by him when she was in elementary school

Synopsis
The Futaba twins are seen taking the train returning to their hometown, Ikari. The twins haven't been back since elementary school and are now returning as third years in their new high school. Now residing at the Futaba inn with their grandmother and uncle, they meet a
non-family resident who turns out to be their teacher. Not long after, the group of childhood friends unite and find out that they are all attending the same school and apparently most are in the same class as well.
On their first day as 3rd years, the twins meet various new students and become acquainted with some. Because this is their last year in high school, they do not want to pass this time without regrets. Ouji then comes up with the idea to start a seishun bu where they can have an unforgettable experience and get involved with many activities that relate to youth. With that idea in mind, they decide to propose this to the student council. To their misfortune, the president's grudge against Ouji causes him to bring trouble to the current members. He doesn't approve right away, sets a due date and tells them to gather a total of 11 members, find an advising teacher, and a club room before coming back to appeal.
On their first day as 3rd years, the twins meet various new students and become acquainted with some. Of course the group doesn't give up so easily and manage to find a club room with Enmei-sensei willing to become their adviser. With different methods of persuasion and different reasons to join, they are able to gather 10 members but this still isn't enough. Ouji doesn't back down and suggests Tarou and him have a duel; if Tarou wins he can have Ouji do anything he wants but if Ouji wins, he would have more time granted to their club. Ouji successfully wins the match and because of this, Rihito has the interest in joining and becomes their last needed member yet he tells Ouji to accept Tarou as well. The group now stands with 12 members and their first seishun activity together is joining the school's relay race. They win second place and did their absolute best as a team, learning to depend on one another. Through various activities and events, the club members bond and become closer than ever. At graduation they leave the club in Kanade's hands and continue on to their future without regrets.
Impressions
So far I have completed only Heita's route but to be honest I find this game really long and boring... I'm not bashing the game as I like the atmosphere and characters but its not really for me I guess. Since it is fully voiced besides when Chitose/Chihaya is thinking, I have it on auto mode most of the time and its more like I'm listening to a drama CD. The game is mostly about friendship; when you are on a certain candidate's route, you will get to see them interact more but don't get your hopes too high and expect something intimate because the most you will probably see is a kiss which did not happen at all in Heita's route. The two got interrupted many times and a few years later when they are in college, they still get interrupted by Heita's dad. Chitose was actually the one who was more bold while Heita seems to not really care about taking their relationship to another level.
I'm currently on Rihito's route (and desperately refuse to continue), I assume that he is the same as Kou from Houkago Colorful Steps, another unrequited love for his family member's girlfriend. In Rihito's case, its his brothers girlfriend who works part time in the library and he goes there very often to study. Chitose points out that he often looks her way so its most likely true that he still has feelings for her and that Chitose is going to be the one whose going to tell him to admit to his feelings and what not. Its very similar to Kou's route so I'm lacking the motivation to continue. I might as well just move onto Ouji's route since I'm sure Haiji would have some kind of emotional back story for leaving his home and occupation to come to Ikari.
For most of the psp games I played, usually the story ends not too long after the couple is established and there may be a scene in the near future that shows what their life is like together but seishun hajimemashita is just way too long; if I recall correctly, there are scenes that take place in every month for a whole year... In Heita's case after they become a couple in December, there are still many group scenes right till their graduation scene and then its their epilogue. Some people may find this game length to be normal but I just don't have the patience with this game ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ. Definitely recommend Houkago Colorful Steps Undoubu over this.

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for the late reply. I actually had to install a software to my PSP, I believe its called custom firmware but because I did this years ago I don't remember where to download it and how to install it. It would be best if you look if up on google if you didn't already.
